Join Latinas in Tech NYC and Women in Devops for another insightful networking initiative where our panelists will share their experiences, personal anecdotes, and practical advice on what they have learned so far in their transition into engineering management.
We will be touching on a range of topics, this will include:
- Understanding the most important priorities and responsibilities of an Engineering Manager
- Challenges and opportunities
- Realities of becoming a manager
- Tricks and tips for learning consistently
- The importance of feedback, mentors, and external education
Alongside this, we will reflect on hiring, interviewing, and how to ensure you are building a diverse and inclusive team. Expect a virtual panel discussion accompanied by a live Q&A. We will also host an additional networking session to continue to conversation.

Ale Paredes is an Engineering Manager at Stripe and one of the founders of Latinas in Tech NYC. She’s passionate about growing inclusive teams and fostering environments where everyone can do their best work, build resilient and scalable systems, and deliver impactful solutions.
Lisa Shissler Smith
Lisa Shissler Smith is an Engineering Manager at Netflix and a Director for Women Who Code. She lives near Raleigh, NC with her husband and their 5 children. She is passionate about inclusion and diversity, and has spoken to groups large and small about recruiting and retention. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, video games, desk dancing, and all things small.
Rafaela is an Engineering Manager at StockX, she and her team are responsible for security for StockX Platform users and ensure they have a safe and secure experience.
Rafaela has been in the tech industry for over a decade and has the privilege to work on a few well-known projects, including King’s Candy Crush and Brazil’s 2016 Olympic Games supporting their telecom network. Rafaela is deeply passionate about technology and has found a true calling in security. Ensuring people feel safe, motivated, and heard at work are her top priorities every day.
Rafaela was part of a project in college to bring more girls into the STEM field in Brazil and it has become one of her passions; ever since the meninas.comp, she has been a champion for diversity and equity.
Rafaela was born in Brazil and has travelled all over the world, before coming to make a home in Michigan. She is married to a loving husband and has three pets. Two wonderful dogs (Chewie and Tomate) and one fantastic cat (Frankie). Rafaela’s hobbies include learning new languages and spending time with her family.
Stella Camacho is an Engineering Manager at Cars.com and is based in the Chicago suburbs. She started her IT career as a helpdesk analyst 17+ years ago, moving to network and system admin roles until 2010 when she finally found her passion in Cloud Infrastructure and Security.
Outside of work, she loves the outdoors and plays tennis. She also hosts/manages a few non-profit websites on her personal server.
Stella grew up in the Philippines and has an Accounting Degree. Her past role while she lived in Manila included working in a public auditing firm, teaching in a Private University, and working as a Scuba Diving Divemaster.
