About the Role

As the Director of Communications you’ll use your drive, experience, creativity, resourcefulness, and network of top-tier media contacts to elevate a game-changing climate technology for good, advance local climate justice efforts, and help realize the vision of a mission-driven public benefit company. Ours is a fast-paced work environment with a highly-interdisciplinary team – one that requires you to be autonomous, flexible, hard-working and an excellent empathetic communicator. We are seeking experienced builders excited about the opportunity to define and create the future.

You will lead, evolve, and implement the voice, and communications strategy of Aclima externally. This includes executing all aspects of that communication strategy, and managing all communications activities that promote, enhance, and elevate the company’s work, reputation, and market position through public relations and communications efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the refinement, execution, and measurement of Aclima’s communications and public relations strategy tip to tail.
  • Know what it means to pitch and communicate the vision and work of a startup as if that vision is inevitable, and understand the power of reflexivity as it relates to a startup’s trajectory.
  • Lead, manage, and execute all communications activities, including company and partner announcements, product launches, funding announcements, thought leadership, and identify opportunities to elevate the CEO.
  • Represent Aclima as a company spokesperson for a wide variety of media inquiries.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives and business partners across the company to ensure communications objectives are met.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, design, sales, and marketing teams to create compelling communication strategies that illustrate the functionality and key benefits of our products.
  • Serve as Aclima communications lead with partners, supporting project-specific communications, including defined narratives, roles, and external community engagement and PR strategies.
  • Coach and provide briefings to the executive team for press conferences, media interviews and trade presentations.
  • Manage PR to support day-to-day press and stakeholder inquiries, staff special projects, plan and manage events.
  • Develop high-quality written collateral, including story pitches, messaging guidelines, press releases, feature stories, blogs, Q&As, presentations, and speeches.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, or equivalent practical experience
    8+ years of professional experience in any communications field in a business, media or non-profit environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • PR agency experience with success stories of serving high-growth high-tech clients
  • Startup experience in a high-growth environment
  • Have managed or mentored others in the above environment, with a track record of team success
  • Bay Area location
