Who You Are
Cray is looking for system engineers with a solid understanding for management and administration of complex, large scale systems and their realization and integration.
As a member of Cray’s System Integration Engineering Team, team members are responsible for driving the integration and delivery of all components of Cray High Performance Compute system stack – including compute, storage, network, hardware and software, in varied configurations. You will be on the front lines of ensuring that the system solutions Cray delivers fulfill and exceed our customer’s demanding requirements for scale, performance, usability, reliability, and manageability. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to sound software engineering principles and a demonstrated knowledge of the full development lifecycle – Agile development expertise is a strong plus.
Primarily be responsible for administration of one or more Shasta datacenter systems including the installation and upgrading of firmware, base OS software, and Cray software.
Knowledge and technical skills to implement technical strategies, evaluate products and provide constructive input to improve products and processes.
A proven track record of success in large scale hardware and software installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of LINUX-based software, networks, filesystems, applications and system management tools
The ability to work well in a cooperative and transparent development environment, both within and across teams.
A willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and embrace new challenges.
Provides technical support and expertise in the creation, tracking and delivery of software products, conducts, participates or drives technical research and collaboration with developers in the usage of software development tools and systems. : Responsibilities may include leading a team or project in area of expertise, planning, supporting, coordinating, integrating, trouble-shooting, and administering systems used as part of the Software Development infrastructure to control and release Software components. This applies to the documentation, design, code, integration, test ware, testing activities, change control activities, release activities and Process definitions as well as the tracking and delivery of Software products. Education and Experience:
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field required
Typically 4-6 years experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
Extensive Linux/Sys Admin skills
Experience with networking edge devices (switches, routers, etc.)
Experience with installing, managing and updating Linux distributions
Experience managing, updating system firmware.
Experience with creating Linux disk images using tools like kiwi-ng or ImageBuilder.
Experience with one or more Linux scripting languages (bash, csh, tcsh, etc)
Experience with one or more common scripting languages (Python (preferred), Perl, Ruby, etc)
Ability to communicate effectively across the function and often across organizational boundaries, or with customers
Software systems testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
Nice to have:
Experience with configuration management, CI and automation tools a must (Ansible, Cobbler)
