Position Purpose:
A Software Engineer II on the Store Platforms technology team will be responsible for core contributions towards the next generation of the software platforms that will support the systems running in The Home Depot’s stores. Engineers will be working on the cutting edge of infrastructure technology using modern, agile software development methods to deliver highly resilient platform software at a massive scale.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

60% Delivery and Execution

Collaborates and pairs with other product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions
Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met
Works with Product Team to ensure user stories that are developer-ready, easy to understand, and testable
Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases
Writes custom code or scripts to do destructive testing to ensure adequate resiliency in the production
Program configuration/modification and setup activities on large projects using HD approved methodology
Configures commercial off the shelf solutions to align with evolving business needs Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively

Nature and Scope: This position typically reports to Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager

Environment: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel: No travel is required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Standard Minimum Qualifications: Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
2 years

Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions, there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
2-3 years of relevant work experience
Experience building with modern Java (version 11 preferred, minimum version 8)
Familiarity with a modern Java framework (Spring, Quarkus)
Experience in a Linux or Unix based environment
Familiarly with deploying software to a Kubernetes-based runtime
Exposure to a cloud computing platform and the associated services they provide
Experience with automation testing (TDD, unit testing, integration testing, functional testing)
Experience with the Git version control system
Experience with noSQL document databases (preferred CouchDB)
