Mangrove Web Development (mangrove-web.com) is looking for a design-oriented front end developer to work remotely for our Oakland, CA based web development business. Ideally you are interested in furthering your web development expertise and are eager to be part of a diverse and collaborative team.

We really care about what we do and how we do it and are looking for the right person who is passionate about our work and team.

Location: not important, as long as you can regularly be available between the hours of 9-1pm PST.

LIST OF TASKS MAY INCLUDE

  • (mostly) WordPress-based development, front-end implementation of mockups from PSD/Zeplin/Figma
  • potential WebFlow or Shopify development if interested
  • Light client interaction on website development projects. Ie, send out requested information to clients, and/or engage with them to get the assets we need. Handle (some) client inquiries by email. (this position is mostly development, but there will be some client interaction)
  • QA websites for fellow developers and provide feedback

NECESSARY SKILLS

  • solid front end skills (mainly HTML, CSS, JS) – confidence implementing designs in a responsive, proportional, detailed way
  • good design eye – ability to look at a mockup vs live website and determine what changes are necessary to reach a finished product
  • at least 2+yrs WordPress custom development experience
  • ability to take initiative, creatively solve problems, and get things done in a timely manner
  • stellar attention to detail and organizational skills
  • ability to work well in a virtual team
  • good English skills, comfort in communicating with team via video/slack and clients via email
  • reliability and commitment to being in communication while actively working on projects. Hours can be flexible as long as there is some overlap time and check-ins with the team.
  • ability to prioritize tasks and deliver on time (or communicate the need for extensions when appropriate)
  • interest in working with a diverse team
  • collaborative spirit and passion for building websites for good.

NICE TO HAVE

  • experience with CSS preprocessors (SCSS/SASS – we use gulp and webpack – we can support in learning this if needed)
  • git experience (basic git knowledge will do – we can support in learning this if needed)
  • experience coding in a dev team
  • experience working in an agile environment
  • experience with API integrations
  • other CMS knowledge (Shopify, WebFlow, Squarespace)
  • E-commerce experience
  • A/B Testing experience
  • GTM / GA experience

LOGISTICS

  • Our tools include:
  • Remote connecting: Slack, Zoom, gDrive
  • Project Mgt: Asana, GitLab, Trello, Harvest (may vary depending on client project)
  • Design: Figma, Invision, Zeplin, Sketch, Photoshop/Illustrator, Adobe XD (developers need to export from these tools, but do not need to be able to design anything in them 😉 You do not have to have licenses for all of these tools.
  • Dev Stack: Docker, Webpack, WordPress

DETAILS

Schedule would be around 10-20hrs/week.  There is certainly flexibility in schedule but you must be available to overlap with a PST timezone, at least until 1-2pm PST on a regular basis.

Compensation hourly negotiable.
