Job Summary:

The Technical Applications Scientist (TAS) provides front line technical support to NanoString customers. This individual will support all Life Science products and applications, pre-sales and post-sales, in addition to supporting both customers and colleagues with experimental design, troubleshooting, and data analysis. This individual will be expected to interface with a variety of internal groups including the Field Application Scientists (FAS), Product Application Scientists (PAS), Field Service Engineers (FSE), Sales, Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams. The role provides critical logistical, administrative, and systems support to the broader, global Customer Experience (CX) team.

Essential Functions:

Provide technical consultation via phone, email and Remote Desktop sessions for customers using NanoString products or interested in using NanoString products
Collaborate with internal R&D, Marketing, Sales, Service, FSEs, FAS and PAS in supporting and resolving complex customer and/or product issues
Evaluation and interpretation of instrument log files to troubleshoot and identify a path for issue resolution
Provide training and experimental consultation to customers who adopt new NanoString technologies and applications in the initial stages of release
Provide post-training support on the instrument, applications and data analysis
Provide feedback to other internal teams: R&D, Product management, etc. for product improvements and enhancement based on customer feedback and experience
Contribute to the development and refinement of the processes used by the global support teams to address the needs of our customers
Interface with Quality and Regulatory teams in fulfilling requirements in the diagnostic space
Assist with organizational and administrative tasks for the global Customer Support Team
Use a Salesforce system to document customer issues and inquiries and provide input into its continual improvement and adoption by the broader global team
On occasion, may conduct seminars and technical presentations to engage in strategic customer communications alongside Sales and Marketing teams
Assist or lead the development of technical information including white papers, technical notes and application notes
Individual may be required to perform lab work, on occasion, when looking to resolve an issue
Ability to work flexible hours in conjunction with worldwide colleagues and customers (US, EMEA and APAC). Attendance to mandatory team meetings and communication may occur outside of normal working hours

A Bachelor’s degree in a Biological or Biomedical engineering field
A minimum of 3 years in a research or technology development capacity role in the biomedical sciences
Strong interpersonal skills
Understanding of scientific instrumentation sufficient for interpreting system log files
Understanding of and experience working in a regulated or medical device environment
Strong analytical and organizational skills exemplified by clear written documentation communicating complex information
Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger cross-functional team supporting complex technologies
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to effectively deal with ambiguity ​
Ability for potential travel up to 15% of the time
Preferred Qualifications

Focused research/academic experience in Immunology, Immuno-oncology, neurobiology, and/or cancer biology
Experience and/or deep understanding of the following: Gene Expression analysis, miRNA, IHC, NGS, Flow Cytometry, RNASeq, QPCR, and Protein Expression assays
Experience in mechanical engineering or biomedical field service
Experience with bio-statistics and computational data analysis
Customer support experience
Previous Salesforce experience
