Head of Product & Engineering Legal, Associate General Counsel
PagerDuty seeks an outstanding attorney and team player with a strong technology background to serve as the lead attorney for our product and engineering organizations.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience serving as a strategic legal partner to senior business executives, providing excellent legal advice to help a technology company develop and bring to market innovative products and technologies, and creating smart systems and processes to mitigate risk and drive business growth. This person also is a highly motivated team player who loves to learn and is excited to make an immediate impact to the company’s values and growth.

How You Impact Our Vision
Lead the Product & Engineering Legal team, determine and implement a world-class strategic vision for your organization, and develop and scale a team of trusted advisors to PagerDuty.
Partner with, counsel, and influence executives in PagerDuty’s Engineering, Product, Marketing, Finance, Procurement, and other organizations to foster the development of innovative products and technologies, uphold the relationship of trust that we have with our customers and partners, and manage legal risk.
Provide outstanding legal advice to multiple business functions across a wide range of areas and throughout the product development lifecycle, spanning topics such as security, privacy, intellectual property, contract drafting and negotiating, marketing/advertising, regulatory compliance, litigation, M&A, export and trade compliance, and more.
Build and maintain close relationships with other subject matter experts across the Legal team, including our Commercial, Employment, and Corporate and M&A Legal functions. Partner with those teams to bring the product lens and strategic approach in support of closing deals, and create appropriate clauses, playbooks, and training for the organization.
Enable PagerDuty’s annual recurring revenue growth goals, and create the most friction-free contracting experience for our customers and internal clients. Lead the development of world-class contract templates, policies, procedures, and programs, and educate clients to set them up for success.
Manage and strategically expand PagerDuty’s intellectual property portfolio.
Anticipate and provide solution-oriented guidance on myriad other legal and policy issues that are likely to arise in a dynamic and exciting environment.
Attorney with exceptional academic and in-house and/or law firm credentials. Admitted into and in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
10+ years of relevant legal experience across some combination of the following areas, with strong expertise in two or more areas: security; privacy; intellectual property; commercial contracts; litigation; marketing/advertising; M&A; regulatory compliance; and export controls and trade compliance.
Experience proactively advising clients on risk mitigation in developing and launching technology products, and delivering practical advice to help clients navigate litigation and compliance risks in a fast-moving environment.
Expert ability to concisely communicate and explain critical legal decisions with context, building relationships to partner with, and educate, senior clients.
Proven ability to prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, lead complex projects that cut across organizational boundaries, and create systems and processes to complete high-priority work efficiently and effectively.
Outstanding professional judgment and client service focus.
Team player with a positive attitude and love of solving problems.
Strong experience serving as a trusted partner for engineering and/or product leaders, including anticipating issues and proactively developing creative solutions to help your business partners solve their toughest problems.
A love of issues that lie at the intersection of technology and the law.
Superb analytical and oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage and drive to completion complex, cross-functional projects with numerous internal and external stakeholders, including projects that involve challenging law and policy issues.
Demonstrated ability to act on the best information available and manage uncertainty, including in areas of newly emerging and evolving laws.
Demonstrated ability to manage resource allocation to focus on the highest priority needs.
