Job Description Summary:

What you need to know about the role-

o Assist with ensuring efficient cross-team (including cross-organization) technical collaboration as it relates to large initiatives
o Hands on technical guidance in design, development, delivery including incident resolution and writing code for important spikes which drive key architectural decisions
o Set and Steer architecture direction by working with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and anchors to define high level architecture approach for an initiative. Responsible for overall technical direction
o Help choose the right technologies and keep pushing the architecture forward
o Engineering Practices: Lead by example with strong engineering practices, coach TLs to adhere to practices, help team(s) define practices

Meet our team-

The Braintree Post Processing group is responsible for what happens to a transaction after it is authorized and settled. That means we own calculating fees, managing charge-disputes lifecycles, and moving money into merchants’ accounts. This group covers pricing & fee calculation as well as Disputes lifecycle management. We are widely distributed, mostly remote. We practice (remote) pair programming, TDD, and we value a strong software engineering best practices.

Job Description:

Your way to impact
As a Group Tech Lead, you will mentor individual team tech leads and senior engineers across multiple teams. You will help guide big picture technical direction as well as get your hands dirty writing code to spike out uncharted territory. You’ll help set best practices across the teams and help ensure they are followed.

Your day to day:

Provide technical leadership in building and improving large-scale distributed systems, growing the scale of our platform, reducing complexity, increasing automation and burning down technical debt
Mentor other tech leads and software engineers
Guide and advise on major technical decisions across two disparate projects
Setup practices to ensure the highest levels of operational resiliency
Collaborate with leadership, peers and customers to effectively deliver solutions and projects
Meet 1:1 with individual team tech leads and senior engineers
What you need to bring-
8+ years of experience in software engineering
Design and Operational Experience with large scale production grade distributed systems
Experience in one or more of the following: Java, Ruby, Kotlin
Good Linux skills and understanding of operating systems
Experience building and maintaining large distributed systems on one of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience with infrastructure as code tooling such as Terraform & Cloud Formationexperience with established, sound software engineering and design practices
Strong leadership skills; empathy, good- listening, leading by example.
